The Iide Association for Advancing the Restoration of the JR Yonesaka Line

The record-breaking heavy rains that occurred in August 2022 caused immense damage to our town, the Okitama region, and the Kaetsu region of Niigata Prefecture. As a result, the irreplaceable Yonesaka Line, which has been in operation for approximately 90 years since 1936, remains out of service. 

For our town, which lacks a high school, the Yonesaka Line is an essential means of transportation for many high school students commuting to school and for the elderly visiting medical institutions. Additionally, it plays a crucial role in tourism collaboration with municipalities along the line. The prolonged suspension of the Yonesaka Line could adversely affect the lives of residents and economic activities, accelerating population decline and leading to a decrease in regional vitality. 

In response to these concerns, the Iide Town Council, with the support of the local Chamber of Commerce and Tourism Association, has established the "Iide Association for the Promotion of JR Yonesaka Line Restoration." We sincerely ask for your support and participation in our activities.
